Dr. Israa S. Abu-Mahfouz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geosciences at the College of Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences (CPG), King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. She is proud to be the first-ever female faculty member to join CPG-KFUPM. With a specialization in Structural Geology, Dr. Abu-Mahfouz brings a wealth of knowledge in the fields of fracture characterization and modeling, geomechanics, and fracture geochemistry in diverse reservoir settings, including naturally fractured reservoirs, unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs, geothermal reservoirs, CO2 storage reservoirs, and geo-energy storage reservoirs.
Dr. Abu-Mahfouz holds a Ph.D. in Structural Geology from the University of Oxford (UK), as well as a B.S. degree in Geology & Environment and a M.S. degree in Applied Geology from the Hashemite University (Jordan). With over 15 years of experience, she has worked in various roles within the oil/gas industry, as well as in research and academia. Before joining KFUPM in late 2021, she held positions such as Senior Geoscientist at Shell, Postdoctoral Fellow at Oxford University, and Postdoc and Research Scientist at KAUST.
An active member of professional organizations such as AAPG, EAGE, ARMA, GSL, OUGG, and JGA, Dr. Abu-Mahfouz has also served as a chair, committee member, and organizer for numerous international conferences and workshops.
