Dr. Nicolas Calvet is a Senior Manager in Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Innovation in the Flexibility team, Energy Division at ENOWA, the Energy and Water Company of NEOM in Saudi Arabia. He has more than 15 years of expertise in solar thermal energy and LDES. Before moving to Saudi, he was an Associate Professor of Practice in the Mechanical & Nuclear Engineering Department at the Masdar Institute, Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). There, he established the Masdar Institute Solar Platform (MISP), the first facility in the UAE dedicated to solar thermal energy and storage RD&D. In parallel, he founded Seramic Materials Limited, a UAE-based startup company, pioneer in recycled ceramics. Finally, he was the UAE representative at the SolarPACES Executive Committee, a technology collaboration program from the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Dr. Calvet has a BS in Physics and an M.S. in Sciences & Technologies (Solar Energy) from the University of Perpignan Via Domitia (UPVD) in France. Then in 2010 he obtained his Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences (Energy and Environment) at the PROMES CNRS Laboratory in France working on thermal energy storage materials, followed by 2 postdoctoral researcher fellowships at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in the USA and at the CIC Energigune Energy Cooperative Research Centre in Spain.
