Dr. Yasmeen Najm is the innovation and technology lead at NEOM in the Hydrogen and e-fuels team within the Energy sector. Her work focuses on developing and demonstrating technologies related to the green hydrogen value chain, carbon capture, storage, and utilization. Prior to NEOM, Yasmeen worked at Halliburton’s technology center in Dhahran in corporate innovation and was an acting team lead in 3 areas: production enhancement, flow assurance, and drilling fluids.
Yasmeen was one of the founding class members in the KAUST Gifted Student Program in 2008. She was sponsored to obtain her undergraduate degree University College London in Genetics. She then joined KAUST for post-graduate studies in Environmental Science and Engineering completing masters. She earned her PhD in in water treatment and algal biofuels. Yasmeen’s multidisciplinary background and interest in exploring the development of sustainable technologies drove her PhD research to reduce wastewater treatment costs obtaining clean water for reuse in water scarce regions like KSA, while simultaneously acquiring high value biomass for applications including biofuels and biofertilizer production. Her aim was to alter the conception of waste to resource, incentivizing governments, and private entities to harness materials from widely available water supplies.
Yasmeen enjoys community and strategic engagement and was appointed for multiple positions including being selected as a member in the Energy-Water-Food executive leadership shadow group at NEOM and a board member Halliburton’s iMPACT Networking group. She also partook as a panel speaker in various international forums, was 10th commencement speaker, served as a chair of the Graduate Life committee in graduate council, and was Vice President of Communications in the founding executive committee of the Saudi Alumni Chapter at KAUST.
