Biography

Dr. Khaled Amiri is a professor of Molecular Genetics in Biology Department at the UAE University. He has obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees from University of Colorado, Health Sciences Center where he worked on catalytic RNA. Dr. Amiri has played the main role to modernize the biology programs in 1996. His philosophy in teaching is mentoring students through the learning process. Dr. Khaled Amiri research interests encompasses basic research on the role introns in biogenesis of mRNA, genomic and population studies. Currently, Dr. Amiri is the chairman of Biology Department where he established the Unit for Genomic studies. The Unit is privileged with state-of-art facilities to carry genomic analysis. The Unit is also empowered by a joint facility for bioinformatics and computational biology in the Biology Department. Dr. Amiri published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals and has a long-term collaboration with University of California, Davis, working on Fragile X syndrome and fragile X associated tremor ataxia (FXTAS). He has been a visiting scholar on a number of occasions to the University of California. He also served or serving as a member on a number of board of directors.​
